David Calvan grew up the youngest child in a Filipino family where food, family and hard work were simply part of life.

It wasn't until he left Hawaiʻi for California that food became something more. What began as work became a craft, then a career—and eventually a way of understanding hospitality itself.

Over the next three decades, David built his career in restaurants, private clubs and resorts across California and Hawaiʻi. Along the way, he learned that the best hospitality isn't necessarily the most elaborate. It's thoughtful, consistent and built by strong teams who care about the work and the people they're serving. 

Hawaiʻi eventually called him home. Today, when he isn't working, there's a good chance he's in the ocean. Surfing is part of his daily rhythm—the counterbalance to a career spent managing people, kitchens, details and constant movement.
